American Sambo Association Nation Sambo Rankings are compiled in an ongoing fashion and are not renewed annually. As senior division players (18 - 35 yrs) continue to compete they will earn points under the guidelines printed below. This ranking system is designed to encourage consistent competition by athletes in both Sport and Freestyle Sambo competitions. Players who continually compete and place will earn points and surpass those who do not. Because of this, rankings do not need to be renewed each year. Those who do not continue to compete and earn points will drop lower the rankings over time.

Points are awarded via the following guidelines:

Amateur Sport or Freestyle Sambo tournament medalists will be awarded the following points based on place finish in their respective divisions. In the event of a three person division, only gold and silver will earn rank points. In the event of a two person division, only gold will earn rank points.
Gold - 3 points
Silver - 2 points
Bronze - 1 point

Amateur fight card or elite tournament participants will be awarded the following points:
4 man tournament winner - 3 points
4 man tournament finals loser - 1 point
Single fightcard or superfight match winner - 2 points
Winning players in team challenges - 2 points

Starting in 2010, we have begun including the AASF US Open in our rankings. However, if you host Sport Sambo events and wish for your results to be included in the ASA National Sambo Rankings, please take note of the following information:

1) You do not need to be an ASA member
2) You must submit your rules to the ASA for review prior to the event so we may establish the validity of your sport/freestyle Sambo event.
3) Upon completion of your event, you must submit a complete place listing for all divisions including all athletes (not just the top 3 place holders).
4) If no ASA official was present at your event, you must submit video of at least the finals to the ASA for review.
5) Ranking points will be awarded to athletes in accordance with our ranking system listed here.
6) Combat Sambo events are not eligible for Sport/Freestyle Sambo rankings.

American Sambo Association Master Sportsman Award

The American Sambo Association will recognize any Sambist who acquires and demonstrates a high level of skill in Sambo through competitive efforts in ASA sanctioned tournaments. This award will apply separately for both Freestyle and Combat Sambo. To be recognized as an “American Sambo Association Master Sportsman” a male Sambist must acquire a minimum of 30 points in accordance the ASA ranking system stated here. Female Sambists must acquire a minimum of 20 points.

This system will assure that any award recipient will have actively competed AND placed in competition for several years – demonstrating continued and recognized skill is Sambo. It is important to note that this award in no fashion signifies an instructor rank in Sambo. Rather it recognizes longevity of competitive skill.

Good luck to all our Sambists!
