The goal of the American Sambo Association (ASA), according to their mission statement, is both to introduce and educate the public on Sambo and to promote bridge-building across martial arts disciplines. From my experience with them they succeed at both.

The affiliate membership has been a perfect fit for our school. We started a Sambo club so we could learn, cross-train, and have fun. It has been a year since we started this additional program and with the support of the ASA it has been a success. Stephen Koepfer introduced us to Aaron Fields in Seattle, the ASA West Coast Vice President, who provided us with guidance and instruction in our training. The spirit of the club, with the bridge-building, allowed for those training in other disciplines to join in. Our club includes members who have backgrounds or still actively train in wrestling, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, and submission wrestling. The spirit of mutual training for mutual gain is alive and well across all martial arts disciplines.

From support to seminars the ASA has exceeded my expectations. This is truly an organization concerned with benefiting their members and promoting the growth of Sambo in the U.S.

I joined the ASA two years ago because it is a fantastic organization that makes every effort to bring the Sambo community together. They offer Tournaments, instructional DVD’s, seminars and constant communication in helping its members grow.  As a member I have been able to network with other likeminded Sambo individuals and clubs who have only served to improve my knowledge and relationships within the Sambo community. I can’t recommend the ASA enough as it has been nothing but professional and well worth the low price of membership. I know I will certainly be a longtime member!

Working alongside with the American Sambo Association, with our Canadian open competitions, has greatly increased the polpularity of Combat Sambo throughout Canada and the US. The Canadian Combat Sambo Federation has gained strength with the ASA's help. The ASA is by far the leading group helping to promote Sambo in the USA.

The American Sambo Association has provided me with the tools I needed to turn my small martial arts club into a functioning, legitimate, and profitable school. This association presented to me the organizational backbone to introduce a strong and individualized Combat Sambo program into my mixed martial arts curriculum.  Under the guidance of the ASA president and other senior ASA members, I have been able to implement a solid technical Sambo base for my students. I have also been able to provide them with a community in the form of our own school forum, allowing us to share ideas and teaching concepts as well as news on tournaments, seminars, and other events with the rest of the ASA.

I have also taken advantage of the discounts I receive on kurtka and ASA Sambo tournaments regularly, and am happy to use these tournaments to introduce students into an ego-free and well organized competition environment.  My student body has tripled since becoming an ASA member partly due to the exposure I achieve by being part of the American Sambo community. I can sincerely say that, without a doubt, the more I participate in the ASA forums, seminars, tournaments, leagues and training camps the more successful my own martial arts program becomes.

I have enjoyed having my school be a part of the ASA. The Freestyle Sambo league and Tournaments have been great experiences to take part in, and was a main reason for my joining. However, more important is the friendships and networking that have developed through cross-training, seminars, camps, and tournaments. I have come to know the ASA as more of a "brotherhood" dedicated to the growth of Sambo led by the tireless efforts of Steve Koepfer, who puts his heart and soul into developing American Sambo.

Just a little note to thank you for your leadership and the ASA for being such a wonderful organization.  If it were not for the ASA, I'm not too sure there would be much support for Sambo schools in America.  You and the ASA are doing everything possible to promote the art and the academies that teach Sambo.  It is wonderful that you are only a phone call away for support and advise.

The American Sambo Association has given me a place to find out 'what's going on in today's Sambo world. They not only do this here in the USA, but “bridge the gaps in the Sambo world" internationally as well. They have the most knowledgeable staff and on-line forum in the US. They have so much passion for the sport I love. This organization should have been around back in the 1970's.  They continue to seek out the truth and provide any true Sambo fighter or fan an outlet. The ASA is shaping the sport for today and tomorrow!
